DC Motor Controller Explained
In an industrial production setting, such as in paper or rolling mills, speed control is necessary to keep motors running smoothly. Factories that use DC motors usually have to purchase a DC motor controller to keep both speed and torque under control during operation. The controller is necessary because motors rotate at such high speeds.
There are a number of direct and indirect benefits of using a speed control drive. It allows for the control of acceleration and stopping, which reduces product loss that usually results because of mechanical wear and tear or breakage of the product. Some provide energy savings due to less horsepower being used during operation. Other benefits include an adjustable operating speed and torque limit, lower power needed to start, and savings realized because the need for expensive mechanical drive components might be eliminated.
Speed controllers or drives work by detecting a signal that represents the needed speed. Drives that measure the actual speed of the motor are called feedback or closed loop speed controllers. Because motors often differ in design and size, DC motor controllers are available with various drive outputs.

Industrial Electric Motors - A Comparison of Its Different Types
Industrial electric motors are relevant components in order to convert electrical energy into mechanical energy. They function after magnetic fields interact with conductors that carry current. With the use of a generator, the process may be reversed, that is, mechanical energy is converted to electrical energy.

The first thing you will want to do is figure out what it is that you need the DC voltage to power. How important is the DC input voltage to the circuit or the device that you to need to have powered? Most circuits or devices that you buy will have voltage protection that is built into the circuit. For instance if it requires a 6VDC input then the range that is acceptable could actually be five to eight volts of DC. Make sure to check the specs for the input voltage before you do anything.
Next you need to figure out the maximum load that your circuit will need for it to operate. The power rating that you will find for the AC to DC power supply will need to exceed the actual maximum DC power consumption of it's circuit. You can figure out the total load or current of these components on the circuit by figuring out the maximum load rating for all of the items, like motors, servos, lights, resistors and so on. If you happen to buy a circuit that is already manufactured or an electric device the DC load is going to be in Amps and will be identified on the item already. To figure this out on your own you need to use the Ohm's law which is I=V/R or the current equals the voltage that is divided by the resistance.
